The Day Before – Lisa Schroeder: review
“A different kind of day
Some mornings
its hard to get
out of bed.
Sleep lures you
like a stranger
with a piece of candy”
Amber has to get away. Just for one day. Just by herself. Or so she thinks, until she meets Cade at the aquarium and it turns out that maybe so company would be appreciated afterall. Someone who isn’t connected to the rest of her life, someone who won’t ask questions, someone who will play the jelly bean game. That may be just what she needs.
Spending a beautiful day together on the beach and wondering round town, sharing trivial information and having fun, because both of them need it, only trouble is Amber has to know why Cade needs it, whats he running from and can she help? And while shes helping him can he help her?

Wow, I didn’t actually realise when I requested this book from the galleygrab that it was written in the way it was and it’s pretty much the perfect book for me. I LOVE it when books authors do something different with the text in their books and verse works so well. It’s kinda like a collection of poems but the story carries on through the book and the way its written is beautiful.
Its not just the way the text is laid out that made me love this book so much, though it helped! The story itself, it was incredible. I was questioning both the characters reasons for being there on that day for a while through the book and I think it was timed really well for you to piece the clues together and work out what was up with Amber. I couldn’t believe what was happening to her, it sounded terrible and I just don’t know how I would cope in that situation at all. She was scared and she just wanted to choose one day of her own life and this was it and I honestly don’t think she could have picked a more perfect one!
Cades reasoning wasn’t found out til the near the end of the book and although I had loads of theories not one of them was right. It was shocking and his reason for being alone that day was fully justified.
I loved the characters and I know that some people probably wouldn’t find it very realistic the way that they seem to connect instantly but I loved it, I knew that there was something that was weighing down on them and that’s what made the connection. They wanted the same things and I know that situations like what the two of them were going through would change your life pretty drastically.
I honestly loved the story, the writing, the characters and the way the text was on the page. That actually made the book go a lot faster than I had thought it would but this wasn’t a bad thing, the pace was brilliant and at no point did I think the story went flat. It was a beautiful story and I can’t wait to read more by Lisa Schroeder because any author that gets me into the headspace of a character as well as she did is worth reading time and time again.
