“You can’t know what it is like for us now – you will always be one step behind.  Be thankful for that.  You can’t know what it was like for us then – you will always be one step ahead.  Be thankful for that, too.  Trust us; there is a nearly perfect balance between the past and the future. Movie Review: G.B.F

So I was approached by Egmont to review their book Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan and in association a movie from Peccadillo Pictures called G.B.F. I liked the sound of what they wanted to do, promote movies and books with LGBT themes in order to raise awareness and acceptance for LGBT individuals so I agreed to have a watch and a read.  First up was G.B.F, which if you haven’t guessed stands for Gay Best Friend. Its about Tanner, a seemingly average high school student who is well and truly in the closet, his best friend Brent who is quite stereotypically gay and is planning a full blown coming…

A Kiss in the Dark – Cat Clarke

“I saw here before she saw me. It was better that way. I watched her looking for me, craning her neck to see over the crowds. Trying to match the faces in front of her against my profile picture. That was all she had to go on. No bigger than a passport photo and you couldn’t even see my face properly. Half turned away from the camera, fringe flopping down over my eyes. It was one of the only photos of me I didn’t hate. She must have liked it too, I guess.” When Alex and Kate start chatting on their favourite bands online forum there’s an instant attraction. Their…

    Geography Club – Brent Hartinger

“I was deep behind enemy lines, in the very heart of the opposing camp. My adversaries were all around me. For the time being, my disguise was holding, but still I felt exposed, naked, as if my secret was obvious to anyone who took the time to look. I knew that any wrong action, however slight, could expose my deception and reveal my true identity.” Russel is gay. He assumes he is the only gay person in the whole of Goodkind High School. That is until he meets another Goodkind student in an internet chat room. The other student just happens to be star baseball player Kevin and the pair…

Boy Meets Boy – David Levithan

“9.00 p.m. on a November Saturday, Joni, Tony and I are out on the town. Tony is from the next town over and he needs to get out. His parents are extremely religious. It doesn’t matter which religion – they’re all the same at a certain point and few of them want a gay boy cruising around with his friends on a Saturday night. So every week Tony feeds us bible stories, then on a Saturday we show up at his doorstep well versed in parables and earnestness, dazzling his parents with our blinding purity. They slip him a twenty and tell him to enjoy our study group.” Paul and…
