So yesterday I got a very exciting email from the guys at Walker Books and I just had to break into blogger on my work computer to share it with you guys!
Patrick New has a new YA novel due out in September!!! I LOVED A Monster Calls (review up tomorrow in fact) and the first two of the Chaos Walking Series’, which I must finish soon, and Patrick’s new one sounds just as amazing. It’s called More Than This and will be released globally from Walker, see below for the cover and press release from Walker about the book.
More Than This, the enthralling new novel from double Carnegie Medal-winning author Patrick Ness will be published simultaneously in the UK, America and Australia this September.
The intriguing and provocative story chronicling the life – or perhaps afterlife – of a teenager trapped in a crumbling, abandoned world is already creating a buzz around the globe.
A boy called Seth drowns, desperate and alone in his final moments, losing his life as the pounding sea claims him. But then he wakes. He is naked, thirsty, starving. But alive. How is that possible? He remembers dying, his bones breaking, his skull dashed upon the rocks. So how is he here? And where is this place? It looks like the suburban English town where he lived as a child, before an unthinkable tragedy happened and his family moved to America. But the neighbourhood around his old house is overgrown, covered in dust and completely abandoned. What’s going on? And why is it that whenever he closes his eyes, he falls prey to vivid, agonizing memories that seem more real than the world around him? Seth begins a search for answers, hoping that he might not be alone, that this might not be the hell he fears it to be, that there might be more than just this…
Denise Johnstone-Burt, Publisher of Patrick Ness acquired World English rights from Michelle Kass Associates on behalf of the Walker Books Group and comments:
“Patrick Ness has done it again and created a thrilling and utterly absorbing new novel for young adults. More Than This will grip readers everywhere with its compelling narrative, engaging characters and brilliantly imagined world. This is a powerful story for our times.”
Patrick Ness says:
“I’ve wanted to write a book about waking up alone on the planet since from about the day I knew I wanted to be a writer. And the ambiguity and mystery that Seth faces when he wakes – what is this place? Is it a memory? Is it real? Is it somehow both? – felt so much like the yearning and questioning I had growing up, it just all came together at the right time. Though there’s despair here, and pain, in one way it might be the most hopeful thing I’ve ever written.”
The release will be supported by high levels of media engagement and events activity before, during and after publication. Patrick’s excited about touring all three territories throughout 2013; Australia and New Zealand in May, ALA Chicago in June and the UK & Ireland and Washington during September and October.
