From the Review Pile is a meme created by Stephanie over at Stepping Out of the Page. Designed to highlight the books that we have have sitting on our review piles and tbr shelves for far too long, it gives books the little bit of extra publicity they deserve. You can find out more about the meme here and you can follow the link above to Stephanie’s blog.
Sometimes a book gets a lot of hype, and ocassionally that hype will actually put me off the book. The Hunger Games was one of those books and so I didn’t read it for a while, and still haven’t read the second and third! The book I am to highlight this week is one of those books also. It is the second in the series and the reason I haven’t read it yet is because even though I loved the first, I think both books have had too much hype for me. I am hoping to get round to Fever by Lauren DeStefano soon but in the meanwhile, its sat on my tbr as it has been since its release earlier this year! Eek!
Rhine and Gabriel have escaped the mansion, but danger is never far behind.
Running away brings Rhine and Gabriel right into a trap, in the form of a twisted carnival whose ringmistress keeps watch over a menagerie of girls. Just as Rhine uncovers what plans await her, her fortune turns again. With Gabriel at her side, Rhine travels through an environment as grim as the one she left a year ago – surroundings that mirror her own feelings of fear and hopelessness.
The two are determined to get to Manhattan, to relative safety with Rhine’s twin brother, Rowan. But the road there is long and perilous – and in a world where young women only live to age twenty and young men die at twenty-five, time is precious. Worse still, they can’t seem to elude Rhine’s father-in-law, Vaughn, who is determined to bring Rhine back to the mansion…by any means necessary.
In the sequel to Lauren DeStefano’s harrowing Wither, Rhine must decide if freedom is worth the price – now that she has more to lose than ever.
