Bookish and Blogish news is my weekly wrap up of the news around the YA industry and my blog this week. This includes cover reveals, new book announcements, new author sign ups, book trailers, blog tours and more. I hope you enjoy!
This is taking over my bookish news post for this week because it deserves a massive shout out. If you don’t live under a rock you will probably know that the Philippines was hit by a Tyhpoon this past week and that there are hundreds and thousands of people in need of aid in the country. The British Red Cross is going out to do its bit but obviously it needs as much funding as possible for that to happen. Thankfully a lot of places and people are trying to raise money to help the Filipino people in need.
One such organisation is Authors for the Philippines. This site is an auction site with over 250 bookish items for you to bid on, ranging from signed limited edition copies of books to having your name (or indeed face!) in an authors next books. The items are incredible and there are a lot of authors, publishers and bookish type individuals doing their bits for the charity. The bids are really high on a lot of the items but its all for a good cause so you should check out the items anyway, and there are a few that haven’t even been bid on yet!
This site was all set up by a group of lovely authors, the same group who were behind the very successful Authors For Japan site after the tsunami there in 2011, and Keris Stainton definitely needs a mention as she is working very hard to get the items up on the page as they inundate her inbox!
The items up for grabs really are impressive and I just wish I had more money so I could try and grab a few of my own! I will be doing my bit by donating a bit to the charity’s Typhoon Appeal site direct. The Authors for the Philippines site will be taking bids until the 20th when it will be stopped in order to gather the money and send to the appeal, be sure to go over now to see what takes your fancy and do your bit for a good cause.
