Q&A With Danielle L. Jensen – Stolen Songbird Blog Tour

Your book, Stolen Songbird, features Witches and Trolls and other magical creatures. Do you have a favourite fantasy race?
If we are talking humanoid races, I’d have to say elves. This primarily stems from reading Dragonlance novels when I was in my younger teenage years.

Have there been any major fantasy series or authors who inspired Stolen Songbird, or other genre of books and authors of course!?
There was no particular author who inspired me to write Stolen Songbird, but there were plenty that inspired my love of fantasy. Eddings, Tolkien, McCaffrey, Hambly, Jordan, Weis & Hickman, and Martin were all authors I read extensively in my younger years.
I know you probably love them all but have you got a favourite characters from your book?
Marc is my favourite character. However, Tristan’s father has been gaining ground while I’ve been writing the sequel.
Growing up did you have a favourite book/ author that you returned to over and over?
I read Barbara Hambly’s Dragonsbane more times than I can count. I attached a picture of my signed copy so you can see how battered it is.
Can you remember who you got into reading and when your love for the printed word began?
I can’t remember not loving books. My parents got me into reading before I could even read. My dad got bored of reading children’s books, so he started reading me fantasy novels when I was in the 1st grade. The Hobbit, LoTR, and all of David Eddings’ stuff.

Are your bookshelves in any precise order?
My significant other is militant about keeping them alphabetized by author. I annoy him by leaving them randomly stacked in various places.
As a lover of books, what would your reaction be to someone who claimed not to like reading or said it was a boring pastime?
Pity.
Do you have a least favourite book that you are willing to share with us?
There are plenty of books I dislike, but when I signed my book deal I decided I would no longer provide public negative commentary about other authors or their books. I say nice things or nothing.
If you could have coffee and a chat with any author, alive or dead, who would it be and why? (Obviously I know you have probably met quite a few fellow authors so this could be either someone youve already met and would like to again or someone you havent!)
I actually haven’t met any of my fellow 2014 debut authors yet in person. It is one of the things I’m most looking forward to this year. So that’s my answer – I want to meet all the awesome people I’ve met in the OneFour KidLit group.
Thank you for taking the time to do this for me!

Thank you for having me!
