Another bit of news from the blogosphere I want to bring to your attention is Serendipity Reviews' theme week starting on Monday. Viv at Serendipity Reviews is hosting "Look at me!" a whole week devoted to self image where she wants to banish the words "Freak" and "Normal"
I will be featuring as a guest poster at some point this week as I think its something that is a huge struggle to all teens and a wonderful idea for a theme, so thank you Viv.
You can find out more about the week here.
Also on the blogsphere but for coming to the end of its week... Caroline at Portrait of a Woman hosted LGBT Teens Novels Week for the second year running. This event is part of the LGBT History Month. I was a part of the week last year and this year is even better. If you missed it please visit her blog and especially this post about the week.
Now Bookish news. Did you all see the cover reveal from Abrams and Chronicle this week? The Peculiars is a new steampunk book by author Maureen Doyle McQuerry and just look at this cover! Its amazing!
Summary: On her 18th birthday, Lena Mattacascar decides to search for her father, who disappeared into the northern wilderness of Scree when Lena was young. Scree is inhabited by Peculiars, people whose unusual characteristics make them unacceptable to modern society. Lena wonders if her father is the source of her own extraordinary characteristics and if she, too, is Peculiar. On the train she meets a young librarian, Jimson Quiggley, who is travelling to a town on the edge of Scree to work in the home and library of the inventor Mr. Beasley. The train is stopped by men being chased by the handsome young marshal Thomas Saltre. When Saltre learns who Lena’s father is, he convinces her to spy on Mr. Beasley and the strange folk who disappear into his home, Zephyr House. A daring escape in an aerocopter leads Lena into the wilds of Scree to confront her deepest fears.
Ahhh, I cant wait to give this one a go!
Finally, I wanted to bring your attention to Bloomsbury's new very short story competition for kids!
247tales is a competition for 10-16 year old budding authors. The challenge is to write a short story in just 247 words and has been running for four years. This years competition launched on Thursday March 1st and there will be a 247 tale from authors every month and each month a winner will be chosen from the entries. The winner will feature on the 247tales website, get a framed copy of their story and win a collection of books for their pleasure.
Visit www.247tales.wordpress.com for more information.
And that's a wrap I believe. I'm sure I missed something but nevermind! Happy Saturday folks!
